Notice the plume extending out from the back of this guys head and the steaks of lighter feathers on his back. He doesn't have his full adult plumage yet but he is getting there.
This Heron is wading near the shore of a local lake searching the water for fish. He hardly moved at all until he spotted a fish. Finally he spotted a fish. He crouched down very slowly, extended his neck out and stuck with deadly precision. They are so quick that if you turn your head away even for just a moment you will miss the whole thing.
You can see the long plumes on this Heron's back as he takes off in flight. Notice how the feet are hooked together.
